Project - Dog Coat #1

It’s early June, but it’s been cold; cold enough to wear a sweatshirt in the evenings. I got inspired to create a lightweight dog coat for our two furry kids: Ripley & Trinity.

R&T are short haired, mutts, although "All American" sounds a bit nicer. They're mom is an Australian Cattle Dog (baby momma) and we assume their dad was some kind of Terrier mix, maybe even a Pit Bull. Regardless of their origin - we love them dearly and decided to adopt them from a rescue in February 2007.

Getting back to my inspiration, because they're mutts, it's hard to find coats that fit their unusually thick necks, wide rib cages, but overall lanky bodies (no one is perfect right?). My quest is to create a custom dog coat that will fit our dogs and stay on as they run around the yard like banshees.

Welcome!

I've been fighting the urge to blog. I kept thinking it would become a drain on my livelihood -- yet another thing to keep updating. But I finally caved; I needed an place to showcase my craft projects (in process and completed).

I got inspired this past week, while on vacation in Sedona. We decided to stop at a couple of art stores and I was utterly amazed. I understand art is subjective but I realized then - there are obviously “professional” artists and then it falls to amateurs. If you can only imagine the things people are trying to pawn off as "art" you would be amazed. I'm not saying I'm a fabulous artist but I think I have some skills.

When we got home, I started to re-evaluate my own skills and how I'm really good about starting projects but never good about finishing them. I'm the first to admit, I'm COMPULSIVE so I like variety and I jump from one thing to the next. It's a vicious cycle that's been around all my life. For that reason, I've decided to start talking about my crafting projects - you my friends - will hold me accountable for finishing them!

We'll see what comes about; I'm optimistic to make it work.
